Invaluable lessons from the field...

Thanks to a very active Parent Teacher Club, and our own classroom parents, our fourth grade Miners have been able to actively engage in learning beyond the classroom.  This is a list of the field studies we have been able to complete this year and with great hope - will continue to do in the future.  If you know of anyone or any business that would like to sponsor a field study, please contact Ms. Manner at [email protected] as she always has many more destinations in mind!

August:  California State Fair: California County exhibits!  Free admittance for reading 3 books!

September:  Auburn Courthouse:  explore the county seat of Placer County and experience old town Auburn, lunch at Old Town Pizza!

October:  Nimbus Fish Hatchery:  scientific study of the life cycle of our salmon species here in California, feed the salmon and observe the process of saving a species by California's Department of Fish and Game

December:  Railroad Museum:  study the importance of the Transcontinental Railroad and the dedication of the Chinese Coolies to lays thousands of miles of tracks to connect the line from Utah through the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range!

February:  State Capitol & IMAX Theatre:  visit the state's glorious capitol building and tour the grounds, attend a showing of "Wild California" highlighting the four regions of California in all her splendor!

March:  Coloma, Marshall Gold State Discovery Park:  tour the site of where James Marshall found the gold nugget that made the world rush in to California's Mother Lode!  Students gold pan, visit the Coloma Museum and other various sites including the original Chinese store, Blacksmith's shop, and more!
